BRIAN SCOTT:

Principal Practitioner, Banking Technology

Brian Scott is a highly experienced international specialist in card and management consulting and programme/project management. He thrives in complex scenarios that demand strategic thinking, innovation and dealing with diverse stakeholders at all levels. Brian brings over 20 years of strategic management training and experience to The Business Performance Consultancy.

Brian was educated in the United Kingdom where he gained several higher business qualifications including an MBA (AACSB, EQUIS & AMBA accredited).

His career started in computing, working for organisations including IBM and ITT. In 1979 he moved into business management with Barclaycard, one of the most commercially successful card operators in the world.

During his 17 years with Barclaycard he undertook leading-edge work including the provision of specialist services for retailers, the development of the first EFT/POS standards and the development of PIN-based card security. He was also involved in the development of PIN-based vending services, the implementation of Barclaycard’s first online collections system and other innovative services aimed at optimising Barclaycard’s overall investment in technology.

Since leaving Barclaycard in 1996, Brian has consulted widely in the international card sector. His first appointment was with Sema Group Payment Systems where he was formally recognised for delivering a broad range of services. He also delivered successful work for Visa, MasterCard and several other leading players in the payment industry. Before leaving Sema Group, Brian progressed to the level of practice manager with full budget accountability.

In 2000, Brian joined a leading consultancy, which was involved with both programme and project management as well as the migration to EMV smart cards. During this time he completed EMV assignments for APACS and the UK government sector.

In 2002 he set up his own independent practice, carrying out assignments for clients including Certegy, the Bank of Ireland, Lafferty International and Renaissance Capital (Russia’s leading investment bank).

Brian’s last extended nine month full-time assignment in Moscow was to provide a broad range of services to a new retail bank aiming to launch a MasterCard Principal Member credit card business and the first product offering. Russia is widely recognised in consulting circles as an exceptionally difficult place to effectively deliver programmes and projects on target. However, Brian made a key contribution to the programme being effectively delivered two months ahead of the CEO’s target.

More recently, Brian spent nine months in Bahrain, as interim project manager for a major global card payments association, managing its EMV strategy development and programme migration project
